roughly a year before the scheduled General Election Staying in power until then would have made him the first Prime Minister of Pakistan to complete a full five-year term The much-awaited ruling in what came to be known as the Panama Papers case stunned the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which feebly said that all was not over for Sharif and he would remain its leader Here then is a list of some of the names in the hat to replace Sharif and take over as interim prime minister: Khawaja Asif PTI had earlier stated that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif will most likely become the interim prime minister for 45 days till Shehbaz Sharif (Nawaz’s brother and Punjab province chief minister) is elected in by-polls according to Geo News Sources told Geo News that it was decided in a high-level huddle of ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) According to Pakistan’s Ministry for Water & Power Asif was born on 9 August 1949 in Sialkot and is a politician of PML-N who was elected to the National Assembly for the fifth time in 2013 Asif has also been a Senator between 1991 and 1993 and has briefly held the portfolio of federal minister for petroleum and natural resources Dawn further reported that Asif has evolved differences with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and had faced court proceedings for allegedly having dual nationality although the charges were dropped later Shahbaz Sharif As Shahbaz is not a member of the National Assembly he would have to contest elections if he was chosen as Nawaz’s successor The News International reported that while Asif could be made interim prime minister Shahbaz may also be elected prime minister Chief minister of Pakistan’s most populous province Shahbaz had held this position earlier from 1997 to 1999 according to another report in Dawn Born on 23 September 1951 the "astute businessman" began his political career as member of the Punjab Assembly in 1988 He became the opposition leader of Punjab Assembly in 1993 Shahbaz is considered to be a powerful administrator and began initiatives for Punjab province with emphasis on health education and environment Sardar Ayaz Sadiq The Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is another strong candidate for next prime minister who is said to have the ear of the ruling Sharif family Sadiq gained Sharif’s trust after he defeated the PML-N leader’s main rival cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan in a hotly contested race for a Lahore seat in the 2013 general election Sadiq lost the seat two years later following allegations of vote rigging only to be re-elected in a by-election narrowly beating another close aide of Khan He was restored as the speaker after his re-election Sadiq began his political career as a supporter of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf party but quit to contest the 2002 elections on a PML-N ticket Ahsan Iqbal A US-educated lawmaker Ahsan Iqbal hails from a political family that has long been associated with Sharif’s PML-N party Iqbal is considered the development brains of the party and a visionary leader He currently heads the federal planning and development ministry having previously served as minister for education and minorities He has also worked as deputy chairman of the Planning Commission from 1998 to 1999 during Sharif’s second term Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan a stalwart of the PML-N was until recently considered the prime candidate to succeed Sharif But relations between the two have recently cooled with some sources suggesting that Sharif is concerned that the vocal Nisar could be positioning himself to wrest control of the party from the embattled prime minister Speculation this week that he could be about to resign his seat has heightened the intrigue surrounding his relationship with Sharif Unlike Sharif’s other key allies Nisar has close ties with the powerful military often serving as broker between the two — a relationship that would serve Nisar well if he decided to make an independent bid for the top office With inputs from AFP By: IANS | New Delhi | Published: September 3 2016 10:10 am Raj Kapoor was welcomed in Russia without visa when he was in talks with a Russian circus troupe for his blockbuster film Mera Naam Joker Top News Sharing insights about the stardom of Raj Kapoor across the world his son and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor on Friday said that once the late legendary actor-filmmaker was welcomed in Russia without visa when he was in talks with a Russian circus troupe for his blockbuster film Mera Naam Joker in the mid-1960s Rishi was in the national capital to attend the opening ceremony of the 1st BRICS Film Festival where he was felicitated by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod and Minister of State for External Affairs Gen VK Singh for his and the Kapoor family’s contribution to the field of cinema While receiving the honour Rishi got nostalgic and recalled a few of his late father’s fruitful memories “Raj Kapoor was making ‘Mera Naam Joker’ and I think it was in the mid-1960s when he was negotiating with a Russian circus to be part of the film He was in London and certainly he had to be in Moscow Russia — which was then Soviet Union” Rishi said adding that Raj Kapoor landed in Moscow thinking he had the visa “But he didn’t have visa to come into Moscow Still they welcomed Raj Kapoor… There was no welcome committee for him because he landed unannounced So he got outside and waited for a taxi… By then people started recognising that Raj Kapoor is in Moscow His taxi came and he sat in Suddenly what he saw was that the taxi is not moving forward and instead is going up The people took the car on their shoulders” Rishi said Sharing another anecdote of Raj Kapoor’s life Rishi said: “Much later in mid-1980s we didn’t really have great ties with China So China requested the Indian government that they want Raj Kapoor to travel there” “When the ministry spoke to Raj Kapoor he got excited like a young boy He was very fond of Chinese food He told my mother Krishna Kapoor that I am going to China and you are coming with me” However he added that Raj Kapoor didn’t go to China Rishi shared: “After five or 10 days he became a little glum He said to my mother that ‘No I will not go to China’ When she asked why he said that the people of China have watched that Raj Kapoor of the 1950s — the young and handsome guy” “Today I have become old and become fat so I don’t want to break their heart with this look He never went to China afterwards” Rishi added Raj Kapoor credited with films like “Awaara” “Shree 420” “Anari” and “Sangam” died at the age of 63 in 1988 The 1st BRICS (Brazil Russia India Kangana Ranaut and Imran Khan promise to bring something new to the table with their upcoming movie ‘Katti Batti’ Related News Over the years Bollywood has showcased various sides of love – the one where you can’t live without each other and the one where you can’t live with each other But most of these have been the conventional girl-meets-boy and happily-ever-after stories But Kangana Ranaut and Imran Khan promise to bring something new to the table with their upcoming movie ‘Katti Batti’ The lead pair of the movie was in New Delhi for the promotional duties of their movie and in an exclusive conversation with The Indian Express revealed that contrary to the popular belief ‘Katti Batti’ is not about live-in relationships Then why did they interact with the live-in couples “It’s just the way that the film is marketed Though I had suggested to the team that this should not be done It reflects just one side of the movie ‘Katti Batti’ is a very intense movie and unfolds like a thriller and the second half conveys the darkness and intensity of emotions Especially the last half an hour It will make you cry But obviously nobody took my advice; they wanted to do their own thing” rues Kangana Ranaut who looked lovely in a printed Dolce & Gabbana dress Earlier films like ‘Salaam Namastey’ and the likes didn’t do that well at the Box Office So this movie might also be meted out a similar treatment “I don’t feel this will harm the movie We have a great movie in our hands and people will love it And it’s my responsibility to tell the people that a) It’s not a rom-com and b) It’s not about live-in relationships It is an intense hard-hitting film And it will make everybody cry I cried” said Kangana explaining the plot of the movie Similar thoughts were echoed by her co-star Imran Khan who says “I think people have perception like that because the opening scene of the film which is also the opening scene of the trailer says that they live-in together The truth is that the live-in aspect of the relationship doesn’t have any bearing on any other aspect of their relationship Their parents are not opposed to it It’s a relationship where there are no external factors that are separating them It’s the issues between them that cause the rift I also think that when we make movies not just Bollywood or Hollywood we tend to look at the superficial aspects of love ‘I love her because she is so beautiful’ Love doesn’t happen like that That’s not the reality of an adult relationship” “A real relationship would be ‘You love somebody despite…’ And that’s what we are trying to show in the movie” quips Imran So how is it different from his earlier release ‘Break Ke Baad’ “Honestly there’s a lot that I liked about the film Second half I think we meandered a li’l bit Also their reasons for breaking up never quite made sense to me But ‘Katti Batti’ did resonate with him You know when Nikhil was narrating the script to me there were a dozen times when I thought ‘I have had this fight’ This would make everybody cry” says Imran Well it surely did make Imran’s ‘maamu’ superstar Aamir Khan cry “Yes it did And it would make all cry And what’s the use of making an emotional movie when it can’t make you cry” opines Imran Share This Article Related Article Earlier in another exclusive conversation with Indian Express at the Express Adda Kangana had said that people now want raw and real women on screen And by the looks of it the audiences have indeed accepted her as the real strong woman Characters like those from the movies ‘Gangster’ ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’ ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘TWM Returns’ and ‘Queen’ bear a testimony to that “I think Payal is the strongest character I have played on screen By far the strongest It’s been so overwhelming to play this woman in the film not in the marketing (chuckles) Everytime I shot for Payal’s scenes I would go home and cry and cry and cry; it left such a lasting impression on my conscience Payal’s character is so tragedy stricken so hard…my heart bled everytime I shot for the scenes When I agreed to do it I didn’t realise it would be so hard but it turned out to be so intense” Kangana added So does she think she is getting stereotyped for playing the strong woman roles “I don’t mind that I have had my journey I respect myself a lot now because I know how much I have struggled and I took every opportunity that came my way I have done supporting roles too in ‘Fashion’ or ‘Krrish 3’ so now if I am being considered for such strong roles I am fine with this tag of a strong performer” says Kangana But this tag only didn’t prove to be good for Vidya Balan when she opted for movies like ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’ “Vidya is a great performer and everybody has a journey She will definitely bounce back I am also ready to take it all The course of life should not be linear It’s linear only if you’re dead Ups and downs are a part of life” Kangana gives the mantra to live life like a
